Compress PDF to 1MB

Aim for a PDF under 1MB, free and privately in your browser.

Private processing · No watermark · No signup

Target: 1MB (1,000,000 bytes). Automatic mode tries lossless first, then progressively reduces image quality and resolution. A target size is not guaranteed. Manual settings apply to Image-based mode.

Image-based compression flattens pages: selectable text, links, forms and accessibility tags are lost. Resolution and quality apply only to this mode. Lossless compression may provide little or no reduction. If the output is larger, we return your original file.

For resumes and supporting documents

A 1MB target gives short resumes and supporting documents more room than tight KB limits. Prefer lossless mode when a recipient needs searchable text.

How to compress a PDF toward 1MB

Choose your PDF, choose your options, then click the blue button. Your download appears when processing finishes.

Your documents stay private

All processing happens in your browser. Files are never uploaded. Password-protected or damaged PDFs are not supported. Large documents may need a smaller batch on mobile devices.

Can every PDF fit under 1MB?

No. Existing compression, page count and image complexity affect the result. The tool reports whether the downloaded copy meets the target. If it does not, try a larger target or remove unneeded pages with Split PDF. Always check readability before using the file.

Will my text stay selectable?

Lossless processing retains text and graphics. Automatic mode only rebuilds pages as images when lossless processing does not meet the target. Rebuilt pages lose selectable text, links, forms and accessibility tags. Use Lossless mode if you need to retain those features.

How is the 1MB limit measured?

This page uses 1,000,000 bytes as its limit, with 1KB equal to 1,000 bytes and 1MB equal to 1,000,000 bytes. The result shows its exact byte count so you can compare it with your upload service.

Choose the right PDF compression method

Try lossless compression first to retain text and graphics. Image-based compression may reduce scanned documents further, but removes selectable text, links and interactive forms. A specific upload limit is not guaranteed; check the downloaded file size before submitting an application.
